Really helpful staff. I'd brought my Shetland knitted lace project on holiday with me to try to get some inspiration to crack on with it (having bought the materials for a scarf when we were here in 2020, I've done about 10 inches!) Instead of bringing the pattern with me I wrote out the details and then promptly left my notes in a hotel in Dundee.
A lightbulb moment, I could see if they had the book in the local library and if I , as a non-resident, could take a look at it. They were very helpful and I was shown to a room with all the Shetland books in - oh, my goodness, what a huge number of books on Shetland, including the one I wanted.
Thank you, I found my pattern and noted it down, so perhaps this evening I'll crack on with the scarf - might get it finished before 2026!
I visited Shetland for 2 weeks, and needed to use the library to conduct a 1-day-prior-to-flight Covid test before I returned to the U.S. Fortunately the CDC ended that requirement the day after I visited the library; I checked the CDC's Covid webpage to discover this. The Shetland librarians offered to do everything to help me get this test if I needed it. Such help given to a stranger? This is the power of libraries.
