Informative Museum

Definitely an informative museum however, if you don't speak German, make sure you have your Google Translate app ready to assist you understand what you're looking at. I was in town for the opera festival. The museum did offer a free audio guide to listen to as you wandered through each of the three structures.

Great Museum at Bayreuth

Great museum to know all about Richard Wagner. Staff are very friendly. Pay parking is beside the museum. Bathrooms are also available beside the parking space at not cost. Museum entrance $8 for adults and children at not charge. We recommend it.

The House of Bayreuth's famous artist

Richard Wagner’s name is inseparable from Bayreuth. He lived here for long time and Villa Wahnfried was built for him. It’s now a musem. His and his wife's grave is in the nice park, we visited it, also.

Ganz nett, aber für mich kein Highlight

Überall wird das Richard Wagner Museum unter den Top 10 Sehenswürdigkeiten in Bayreuth angepriesen und vll bin ich deswegen auch einfach mit zu hohen Erwartungen dort hingegangen... Es ist alles ganz nett, modern und interessant in 3 Häusern dar gestellt, aber man ist relativ schnell durch und am Ende fragt man sich, war das jetzt wirklich schon alles? FAZIT: Richtige Richard Wagner Fans kommen hier schon auf ihre Kosten, ansonsten einmal gesehen reicht ein Leben lang -> mittelmäßig :)

Simplesmente Wagner.

Um lugar emocionante, e basicamente obrigatório, para que gosta de Wagner, não há o que se explicar muito. Foi a minha terceira visita.

Dans l'antre du maître de Bayreuth

Au fond d'une allée arborée, on rejoint la maison du compositeur, avec son parc et ses deux dépendances. Une atmosphère étrange se dégage de chacune des pièces visitées, où on découvre le piano Steinway à queue dans l'alcôve de la bibliothèque aux ouvrages miraculeusement préservés des bombardements de la 2ème guerre. Des collections d'effets personnels, des partitions originales, des peintures et sculptures complètent l'ensemble. Clou de la visite: se rendre à l'auditorium du sous-sol pour y apprécier plusieurs extraits d'œuvres (ouverture de Tannhäuser, par exemple) en réalité et analyse virtuelles! Un must! Purement magnifique. Dans les deux ailes, on ressent ici l'attirance de la belle-fille de Wagner pour les théories antisémites du Führer... Il ne reste plus qu'à flâner dans la propriété pour aller se recueillir sur la tombe de ce compositeur génial.

Luogo stupendo. Staff un po' meno...

Museo ben curato, con una ricchissima esposizione di documenti e oggetti sulla vita di Wagner e di tutti coloro che gli sono stati intorno. Il giardino, dove Richard e Cosima risposano, è incantevole. Unico spiacevole difetto? Lo staff. Sono entrata nella villa con uno zainetto e, nonostante mi avessero vista, nessuno mi ha detto nulla. Dopo circa venti minuti, appare un altro membro dello staff che inizia a richiamarmi come se fossi una ladra (e tra l'altro con un inglese inesistente) per dirmi di andare a riporre lo zaino nel guardaroba al piano inferiore. Mi scuso, ci vado e risalgo. Una volta su, mi trovo davanti un altro signore dello staff che, vedendomi tornare dentro la sala velocemente, mi urla contro per dirmi che DEVO leggere i pannelli esplicativi. Cosa che, naturalmente, avevo fatto nei venti minuti precendenti. Mi sono sentita umiliata. Il museo è meraviglioso, il luogo magico. Vorrei solo che le persone che ci stanno dentro fossero all'altezza dell'atmosfera che si respira lì dentro.

Richard Wagner house of madness

Bayreuth is almost a city out of a dream tale. German composer Richard Wagner built his own opera house there and also lived for several years in the city. Actually, you can go from the theatre to the composer's home in only 20 minutes by walk. The composer's home now serves as a Museum. Words can't describe the experience of being in the same spot as the composer. The venue had an intense restauration works in 2015 so now its a beautiful and renewed place to be.
