点评:The Yala Safari was definitely one of the most unique experiences we’ve had after 6 months traveling in south Asia. We did the full day safari which started at 05:15 and finished at 18:45. It’s a long day but every minute of it was worth it. Our guide Tharindhu, who is also the owner of the tour agency, has been incredible from start to finish. First, he sits at the back with his customers - a plus to be explained where to look, and what’s happening (we saw so many tourists sitting alone at the back of the jeep and wondering what’s happening because they had no separate guide and the driver wasn’t communicating with them). Gihan’s knowledge of the park and animals is admirable - he knows all about their behaviors, where to find them, and at very specific times. He brings you to areas of the park where the others don’t go, so you get away from some potential traffic and can enjoy the pettiness of the jungle while enjoying breakfast. The safari is not a zoo, so there is always a risk of not being able to see leopards or elephants. But with Gihan, the risk is much lower! He was able to spot a leopard in a tree whereas dozens of other jeeps passed the area without seeing anything. He works in perfect sync with his driver, which means we were much faster and cleverer than other cars in situations where the animals were moving and we had to relocate quickly to spot them. In one instance, our strategic position meant that a small group of elephants appeared on the road just behind our car and passed next to us, (like 3m from the car) - Tahrindu predicted they’d come this way. It was such an amazing experience. Other than the obvious thrill of looking for animals in their natural environment (which Gihan also teaches you how to do so), we learnt a lot about their behaviours towards the environment but also with each other.
Oh and we had a umpteenth stop on the way back to the hotel for a sunset pic and observing some more monkeys - the team was very generous with their time!
And as if it was enough, Gihan followed up the next day and sent us some pics he captured with its super zoom - thank god because with my phone camera, I didn’t get a shot of the animals that were far away.
Honestly, just contact them and hope they still have space!
