点评:We wrapped up our trip with a turtle release. Our tour guide, Roberto, picked us up at the Fiesta Americana, pointed out many interesting sites in the city, and then drove out into the less populated areas to get to the turtle camp. Roberto's English is very good. At the camp, a bilingual host told us about the turtles, who were climbing around in a plastic bin ready to head for the ocean! In advance I was concerned about how the turtle eggs were harvested but after investigating found they are harvested at night from the beaches to protect them from humans (and animals). The turtles we released had hatched just that morning. Amazing! Each person had a turtle in a small plastic bowl. We lined them up near the ocean and then gently dumped them out. They headed straight for the ocean. Good bye, little guys! One note, be sure to take sandals or flip flops. We just had sneakers and because we didn't want sand in our shoes we took them off to go out on the beach. The sand was burning hot, ouch!!! If you don't have sandals put up with sand in your shoes instead.
After the turtle release, we got back in the van and Roberto took us to the lagoon for a boat ride. We learned lots about the area, which is beautiful and very rural. Saw assorted birds and beautiful views. The boat stopped off at an inlet for swimming. We did not know to bring swim clothes and so we did not participate. Some guests took a quick ride on an innertube pulled by a speed boat. The guide on the boat spoke Spanish, English and French.
To wrap up the day, we returned to the turtle camp for a delicious meal. Our party had the traditional fish, friend fish, and diablo fish and all were very good. The little "turnovers" (not sure of real name) that came with them were delicious as well. We were told that sometimes horseback rides are available on the beach and they rent bikes as well. We did not participate in these activities.
So glad we got to do this! We arranged our tour through Jose, the guy in the turquoise shirt, at the Fiesta Americana. He's both a taxi driver and am abassador for Acapulco. We did a city tour earlier in the week with Jose, and he was helpful in arranging other activities as well. Definitely recommend this one!
