点评:We saw the Fitzroy Barometer in Mousehole Harbour having visited here on a Wednesday early evening in May during a weeklong visit to Cornwall. We had driven here having been sightseeing in this part of the county and the village was fairly quiet when we arrived. We parked our car in the (pay & display) car park to the left of the harbour and had a good walk around.
The barometer is recessed into the wall of the Ship Inn and an information notice explains that it was donated to the village of Mousehole by Admiral Fitzroy, to give the fishermen warning of impending bad weather. The barometer has since been donated to the village by the metrological society.
Not being aware of this before we visited, I spotted this whilst exploring the harbour area. A reminder that for those who make their living from the sea ‘forewarned is forearmed’!
A quirky item to stumble upon, our scoring reflects the barometer as a standalone attraction.
