点评:The Legacy Sites are composed of three sites: The Legacy Museum, The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park. The first two opened in 2018, the third one opened in 2024. One entry fee of $5 covers all three sites (the entry fee allows you access to the museum for the day but you can visit the other two sites multiple times if you wish); there are free shuttle buses that take you to all three sites. The main reason for us to come to Montgomery, Al from California was to visit these sites. Note that they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The National Memorial for Peace and Justice is a 6-acre outdoor memorial that documents the period of lynchings from 1877 to 1950. There are 800 steel columns all hanging from a roof. Each steel six-foot column lists the names of victims by county and state. There are more than 4000 documented lynching victims listed at the memorial. There are plaques explaining the reasons why a person may have been lynched, like a 14-year-old boy was lynched for “frightening” a white girl. This memorial is a very powerful experience. Plan on spending 1 ½ hr at this site.
