Spectacular setting but the conveyor belt approach impacts the magic

点评：We had our wedding at Lillibrooke in July 2024.
This feels like a strange review to write because while we absolutely loved our wedding (we had fantastic weather, all our guests were on top form, and our suppliers were brilliant) we feel that reviews should give an honest reflection of your overall experience so that others can make properly informed choices about where to get married - and we felt that Lillibrooke could make some improvements.
The Good Stuff:
Lillibrooke boasts numerous excellent features. The newly refurbished dressing rooms in the Tack Barn and Cottage Room feel exceptionally premium, as did the Small Barn with its new doors and the Great Barn (once decorated with lights).
The venue itself is also brilliantly flexible and the space is yours exclusively to use however you like - including options for dining styles and decoration, and that was particularly important to us.
For those seeking a well-oiled machine where the whole wedding is conveniently located in one place and which looks picturesque in photos, Lillibrooke could be an ideal choice for your wedding. The venue is easy for guests to find, has ample parking, and is conveniently accessible from London and Berkshire. It is visually stunning, especially on a sunny day - and the furnishings and the grounds are immaculate.
Booking viewings with Lillibrooke was straightforward, and they were accommodating with our questions. The site is expansive, comfortably hosting large weddings and the team generally worked well with our suppliers, including those not on their preferred list. Most suppliers knew where to go, what to do, and had the necessary equipment (mini golf, hair and makeup, florists, a band, a decorative team, and a string quartet).
The junior team, responsible for laying tables, carrying plates, and serving drinks, were remarkable. Despite the heat (over 30 degrees), they maintained a cheerful attitude and impeccable manners and dress throughout the day and all evening. They truly deserve massive respect for their efforts.
Areas for Improvement:
That said, for those looking for a venue that makes you feel exceptionally special, as if it’s the most important day of your life and you are very important to them, Lillibrooke may not entirely meet your expectations.
While it is reassuring for some that Lillibrooke is such a well-oiled machine, this comes at a price. The site hosts a crazy number of weddings, often with no days in between, and at times we felt a bit like we were on a wedding conveyor belt. The most painful example of this was the bride being repeatedly called "Poppy" instead of "Polly" and the morning after, having to awkwardly navigate around suppliers for the next wedding. This did dampen the magic of the day somewhat.
Additionally, there were some aspects Lillibrooke did not make clear when we booked our wedding with them (on a special package).
Firstly, our coordinator, with whom we had liaised for months, was not the coordinator on the day and apparently - it never is. This resulted in some personal touches being overlooked. For instance, one guest's seating placement was placed jutted out awkwardly at the end our banquet table despite prior arrangements. We also noticed that the candles on our dining tables were not lit despite discussions about hurricane vases which were sourced at great expense. The venue does not allow any fireworks, so we arranged to have sparklers instead. After booking, we were told sparklers were only allowed for a photo opportunity and were to be held only by the bridal party. We didn't care much for the photo - they were supposed to be for our guests to enjoy. In the event, our coordinator forgot them entirely, so we got neither the experience or the photo. Our confetti shot was also set up in the wrong place, causing confusion for guests who ended up being shuffled around locations in 30 degree heat before being given a drink. These details clearly felt "whatever" to Lilibrooke, but were important to us and might have been addressed had our original coordinator been present.
Secondly, although the website suggests they’ll try to accommodate a food tasting for package bookings, we were flatly told, “no – we never allow that on a package” after paying our deposit. Even our offer to pay for the tasting was denied. We don't know for sure, but we wonder whether we might have been treated better if we weren't on a package.
During banquet-style dining, the food was served slowly, with one length of the table being served at a time. This created an awkward situation where half of our guests were watching the others eat and finish before their food arrived.
We also experienced some issues with lost items of jewellery, and it felt that Lillibrooke was not very interested in helping us locate them (they say they tried, but we are unconvinced). When we raised concerns about various issues we encountered on the day, the response from the team felt defensive and they would not accept any accountability for mistakes. We believe these areas could benefit from more attention to improve the overall experience for future couples.
Overall:
We had a great wedding at Lillibrooke, and we will always remember it fondly and are grateful to the team for their efforts helping to make it happen. The venue is epic and the photos are fantastic. However, as a bit of feedback we think the coordinators could benefit from a reminder that each wedding is probably the biggest and most special day in a couple's life - and we noticed a bit of sparkle fatigue from them, perhaps due to the high volume of events they are managing. This might be better if coordinators actually ran the days they help to plan, as they will feel more invested and personal touches are less likely to get missed.
