Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary的点评
点评：Having just returned from travelling inThailand for a couple of months I have nothing but amazing things to say about my visit to Boon Lotts elephant sanctuary. Having done lots of research before going I was looking for a sanctuary that had the animals welfare as the main priority, and an elephant sanctuary that was completely hands off for visitors like myself, and a place where I could just observe the elephants doing their own natural thing and not being forced to perform for tourists. I didn't want a place where there were crowds of tourists riding, feeding and bathing elephants. I arrived at Sukhothai airport not knowing what to expect but was immediately collected by the sanctuary's lovely driver who put me at ease. Once we arrived the sanctuary which is nicely tucked away, I was met by the owner Katherine. The welcome I received was lovely and I immediately felt like I had known her for years.
Throughout the week I was able to observe the elephants each day and the care that they are provided by Katherine and her whole team. From some of them having medical treatments each morning to address issues caused from their previous life to just watching them wander around of the forest of their own free will. Everyday was just amazing and I was in awe of everything. Watching the elephants with Katherine I was able to learn so much from her and the trust between her and the elephants was clearly evident in the way that they reacted to her, especially during medical treatments. I was able to get involved by helping chop down banana trees for the elephants to eat, preparing some medical food balls and chipping at fruit each morning and then watching the elephants enjoy eating it all. The whole team at the sanctuary were impressive all round. The mahouts were funny, cheeky and friendly and clearly loved the elephants and treated them with respect. The lovely ladies that kept house, providing us with the most amazing Thai food I have ever had, even delivering lunch to us out in the forest. Everything at the sanctuary was always clean, tidy and replenished due to the hard work of the ladies. The rescued cats and dogs always put a smile on my face. And finally Katherine and her family who all have a hand in making this such a great experience. From the moment I arrived I felt welcomed in and almost part of the family. From walks in the forest with the elephants to sitting playing uno in the evening with the whole family after food, it was just an amazing experience and I cannot thank them enough for making it such. They are an inspiration and I cannot wait to go back later this year! I cannot recommend Boon Lotts enough.
