点评:I am trying to include a few things that others will find helpful.
We were a large group. 8 adults, a 4 year old, and a 2 year old.
We rented a Horizon 5 for 10 days.
The boat: - 5 bedrooms and bathrooms. All are tight. Enough room to sleep and get dressed and that is it.
The fly deck up top was nice. We spent much of our day time up top. We only drove from up top even though you can drive from the inside helm if you choose. We used that area as storage and electronic recharging area.
The stern of the boat is nice as well with a large open seat and sliding doors that open the kitchen area to the outside. We did all fit around the upper or lower table. The lower table area is nice in the late evenings when the bugs come out we move in and played cards, etc…. We mostly had all our meals up top.
The top of the boat had a small refrigerator and a grill.
Inside refrigerator was good size. Our boat was pretty well equipped.
The boat has 3 air cooling units. Two for bedrooms and one for the back. One unit did not work. The other two did.
Our boat did break down twice in the same day because of fuel filters. We called Leboat they came out and fixed the boat. Overall 5 hours of delay all together. Not that bad because hey, we are on a boat in the Netherlands and enjoying the sun and being together. It did delay our trip to Utrecht.
Our boat max speed was about 11 knots. The canal speed limits are 10 or less so no issue. The boat had bow and stern thrusters so parking the boat and going through tight spaces was fairly easy.
The experience with LeBoat:
Our boat was fairly clean and ready for us earlier than expected.
They helped us plan a route. Be sure to ask questions as needed.
They showed us how to use the boat. We had rented a Leboat before in France so this was similar.
Overall no issues but it takes some time. Don’t expect to walk up and be shown your boat.
The ten day trip:
Day 1 - We flew in from various places in the USA. We met up in the Amsterdam Airport about 11 AM and took a couple of Ubers to LeBoat. After we were sure we could get a boat the 4 ladies in the group took a quick Uber to the nearest full sized grocery store to stock up on water, beer, wine, and some food.
The guys moved into the boat and did the checkout on the boat with the LeBoat technician.`
We could have left at 4 pm but we decided to just chill the evening at the LeBoat base. We were tired from traveling.
Day 2 - We left in the morning at 9. The first lock and bridge open at 9 and are close.
We went to Amsterdam North marina. That took about 4 hours total. We planned each route using Water Kaarten app. That helps with routes and with bridges and locks. We stayed 2 night in Amsterdam. We used the frequent and free ferry to get from near our marina to city center.
Day 3 - Did not move - Just more Amsterdam touring
Day 4 - We went to Haarlem. About 3 hours. We stayed on Canal wall with power. We loved Haarlem.
Day 5 - We went to Lisse. - Just a few hours. We loved Lisse. (Tulip Town)
Day 5 - We went Leiden. Just a couple hours. We stayed in a marina. We loved Leiden.
Day 7 - We went to Gouda. We liked Gouda. (Cheese Town)
Day 8 - We went to Montfort. Charming small town. We stayed on a wall with no power.
Day 9 - We went to Utrecht. We stayed in city center on a canal wall with no power. Our boat was too wide for the marina slips.
Day 10 - We went back to Leboat base. Grilled and chilled. We did a checkout on the boat with the staff at 3 pm. We spent the night on the boat and left via Uber early the next morning to the Airport. It is OK with Leboat to do that.
Overall we used the Water Kaarten app to plan. You put in your boat height above water, length, and width. The app will tell you which bridges you need to have raised (yellow) and which you can just go under (green).
We planned to not boat more than a few hours a day. Basically get up, eat breakfast, and get moving at 9. Many bridges don’t open until 9. Get into where we are going, go touring, eat dinner, etc…. We shopped for food along the way. Bring a few small backpacks when you leave the boat. Remember you are on foot for ten days.
We plugged up most nights but had a couple with no power. No power = no air conditioner but most nights were pleasant. Get fresh water when you can. Dump black water when you can. You have large tanks but not unlimited. You are on a boat not a house. The showers drain straight out of the boat. Just black water is held.
We used about 30 hours total run time. We were allotted 20. But the up-charge is reasonable at 20 an hour. Overall - Turn the boat off as soon as you don’t need the engine and turn it back on only when needed. You have to turn the boat on/off from the lower helm.
We loved the Netherlands. Google translate app helped as well. Most people spoke English but many tourist things, instructions, menu’s, signs, etc… are in Dutch.
We had cell coverage on 100% of the trip.
Some bridges / locks we called the bridge master, some had cameras, sometimes we followed other boats. Overall that works out ok.
Compared to France Leboat - Netherlands have far more bridges, far more route options and possible turns, both are beautiful, both had perfect September weather, France had better wine along the way but we were in Bordeaux region.
