点评：Went to Van Dusen Garden Festival of Lights on Dec 28th evening. I have attended this event for many years since I chose Vancouver as my home city. To my surprise, I found the festival somehow subdued. The amount of lights and decorations were certainly scaled back comparing to previous years. Most of big tall trees had no lights; some were lit by some form of LED projection lights, which could not make the same effect. I assume it has got something to do with economy, staffing and budget. The festival was closed for two years during covid, and I could not attend the last year because I did not buy the ticket online ahead of time. But I clearly remember it was an extravaagnt setting back in 2019 and before that. So it is sad to see they had to scale down. For example, there were hundreds of lit tulip like plants (made of recycled bottles) before, and this year, except a small section, there was none of that. The lake area in the back was dark. The carousel is not there anymore. The west section of park had some nice decoration. I liked the polar bear and salmons theme in the main pond. The music choice was not very fun either. There was some Christmas music around the garden; the main music for sound and light show which is run every half hour, was just weird, I guess it was from a Disney movie (?) (singing Into The Unknown?) which could not emulate the festive and joyous feel of Christmas. I also found the garden somehow less crowded for a Saturday night before new year, when almost everyone is off work or school. I hope they will not shut this festival down due to lack of $$$. I will attend next year too, and hopefully it will be better than this year.
