点评:San Pietro in Vincoli is a 5th-century minor basilica located at a small square by the same name to the south of Via Cavour and around 5 minute walk north of the Colosseum.
This is a very popular church for tourists who visit in great numbers to see relic chains of St. Peter, which are held in the small ground level niche near the front of the church. As well as the Michealangelo's masterpiece sculpture of Moses depicted with horns (1515). While incomplete, this is considered one of his finest works.
Note: there is a Euro coin operated machine that can be used to illuminate Moses which is very helpful for taking photographs. Given the near constant presence of tour groups coming and going, it seemed during our recent visit, there is usually someone there ready to pop in a coin.
There are other impressive things to see within the church. I particularly enjoy the Grim Reaper tomb, apse frescos and a 18th-century coffered ceiling fresco. Note that San Pietro in Vincoli has separate morning 8.30am - 12.30pm and 3pm - 6pm (afternoon) opening times while planning your sightseeing for the day.
