the gold standard for composer houses
The Red House, Aldeburgh的点评
点评:I'm not a Benjamin Britten freak by any stretch of the imagination (there are 20th Century composers who i'm much more drawn towards) but i do have a professional interest and i'd recently been gripped by the book 'Britten's Children' by John Bridcut. As far as composer houses go, this surely set a gold-standard. One might bemoan that the pool and tennis courts (Britten was a keen sportsperson) are no longer in evidence but what is there in place of these two things is a pleasure to behold. As I was wandering around the museum i thought that this could quite possibly ignite the curiosity of someone who has no knowledge of the composer. On the special day that I went with my friend , rooms which were generally not seen by the public were on display. It was wonderful to see Britten's shirts, Pears's colourful art collection and Britten's comparatively spartan room. The archive was truly incredible with examples of burnt manuscript from the fire, letters from set designers and costumes from Noah's Flood. Nicholas Clarke was the erudite but approachable guide. His words were very clearly spoken and enjoyable to listen to. He explained that the archive is stored a few metres higher than the rest of the building to save it from floods.
