点评:I appreciate that this road is a firm favourite for some, but for us, it will go down in family history as being the road that broke my husband.
Setting off from Eskdale Green, he wanted to give our teenagers a view of the Lakes that they would never forget.
Our lack of research, localised drizzle and car in eco-mode, created a recipe for disaster.
Hearing the bottom of your car grating on the road is one of those sounds that you never want to hear. Then, on Hardknott Pass we did not pass. We got stuck & our front wheeled car’s wheels kept spinning, & the only way to shift it was to push, which is no mean feat wearing Birkenstock sandals. Thankfully this did the job and we shakily journeyed back down the valley.
I can only imagine that it is a beautiful road, but said mist & eyeballs glued to road meant that we didn’t even see the sights.
My advice: go the long way around & watch the pass on YouTube.
